Do you want to know what it means to be a digital citizen? Do you need to know what students need to have access to in order to become purposeful and effective digital citizens? ISTE’s new Digital Learning Pathways, created in partnership with the Metiri Group, are designed to help busy teachers deepen learning with digital tools. In this course you will interact with research, best-practice strategies, teacher-assessments, rubrics, real-life scenarios of practice, technology integration strategies, sample lesson plans, and more.
As a result of participation teachers will know what it means to cultivate students as skilled digital citizens, what characteristics lead to effective digital citizens in today’s world, and effective strategies to develop those skills in all learners through classroom practice. Users can earn a certificate of completion and a badge after completion of a knowledge assessment.
ISTE’s Digital Citizen Standard
The Digital Citizen standard takes new approach to thinking about digital citizenship through the lens of the ISTE Standards for Students. The Digital Citizen standard highlights the readiness of students to fully participate in a global, connected, and digital world. ISTE has purposefully developed a fresh perspective on the concept of “digital citizenship,” shifting from a narrative of risk to one of opportunity. Rather than focusing only on the litany of digital citizens’ responsibilities and challenges, ISTE’s Digital Citizen standard emphasizes the incredible breadth of opportunities that the digital world presents to today’s student. While a lot of educators are talking about what they can do to develop students as digital citizens, not many are defining what that means or using research-based strategies to actually develop students as ready, purposeful, and skilled digital citizens. The science behind the standard, as well as rubrics for all of the criterion that create this standard are provided in easy to read, mobile friendly, and instantly usable resources.
